On Instagram, Perfectionism and Just Sharing yourself (dammit)

Instagram is an amazing little tool.

You carry a HD camera all day in your pocket. Then take a picture of something, make it that little extra lovely, beautiful or interesting – and the only way to save your creation is to publish it to your followers (or the world if your profile is public).

The first time I realized that feature it made me freak out a little. A lot of pictures taken I didn’t publish. This isn’t pretty enough, or special enough.

The funny thing is – I was living the most special period of my life. Just moved to Colombia, Medellin. Lived with a great crew of people, learnt Spanish, Salsa, was dating some gorgeous local girls… And not a lot of that made it to instagram at all. Either I didn’t think about it or didn’t think it would be special enough.

You know how they say – how you do one thing is how you do everything?

I realized, this is my perfectionism. My need to show the world that I’m publishing worthy things.

Well screw it.

I’m all about self expression, but in the medium that I love – writing… And in the blog called “Unstagnate” I’ve stagnated over and over. Waiting, taking my sweet ass time to write blog posts. Ironic, isn’t it?

And the answer was there all along. I’ve known it from other areas.

I have to take action. But you really have to be willing to go through with it.

I don’t train to a marathon, and then on race day not participate.

I don’t write a blog and then not share it because it’s not good enough. That’s not real. Sharing yourself %100… That is.

If you want to become good with your skills, your art, your voice, your message… Start sharing. Now.

It IS good enough.

It is your unique voice.

You can always delete it later…

And besides, it’s the chronicle of your life. Your growth as a person. Your journey.

Sharing it with other people is secondary to the wonder of creating your own legend, voice, or artistic personality. You discover about yourself and what you really enjoy.

Create for yourself. Share it with the world.
