Stagnation

Have you ever made a promise to yourself to change?

Start hitting the gym?

Eating healthier?

Smile more to people?

Work harder?

Eat more vegetables?

Start flossing?

Whatever it is I’m sure you noticed that change is not that easy. Life has a way of carrying you with it, with your old shitty habits, excuses and sob stories so that after an initial period of effort and focus…

Plop.

You fail to do what you said you will once.

And then, you rationalize that it’s ok because you’ll do it the next day.

But the next day, surprisiginly, having already had one day of failing is almost proof that what you knew would happen – failing – happened.

So you decide to stop. Many times it’s a heart breaking decision. You somehow promise yourself things would be different next time. You’ll put more effort in. You’ll be more focused. More prepared.

But that seems to never happen.

So we remain stagnant. Stuck in place. Always remaining the people we always were.

But at least life is comfortable.

Well screw that. Screw resistance and everything that comes with it.

Screw being stuck replaying old scenarios from your life, seeing them cross in front of your eyes over and over again.

Never is it more painfully obvious than when making new year’s resolution.

This is how I spent an entire year not getting more fit.

An entire year where I haven’t gone out actively to meet new people and surround myself with amazing inspiring personalities to help me grow.

An entire year more stuck in this job of mine, that has a career path that will keep me in this golden cage forever. Until I decide what I want to be when I grow up.

We all know this frustration. We are all masters of self deceipt, of giving ourselves reasons as to why we shouldn’t push past our comfort zone, why that promise we made to change is actually not valid anymore.

We’re our own worst enemy. We have our own worst enemy inside of us.

Resistance.

To push through resistance you need to know it’s nature. Resistance is an ugly bitch that can morph into a beautiful serenading mermaid. It will give you excuses to stay in place and reasons why it’s not so bad. It will be the voice of reason, of doubt, an echo of voices of the past and your own insecurities. It’ll promise you everything to not change. You have to use willpower to conquer resistance. And willpower is scarce. So you can’t push yourself in every area of your life, every day.

Patience, young grasshopper.

In this blog I will be discussing various aspects of self growth – financial, social, spiritual, physical, emotional. I’ll talk about various techniques to conquer your inner resistance. To get past that barrier consistently. To create the person you want to be, the beautiful statue hidden in the proverbial lump of marble.

If you’ve ever wanted to change and were lost as to how – this is a good place to start.

And think of this quote:

“Life begins at the end of your comfort zone.” – Neil Donald Walsch

Have you left your comfort zone today?

Have you read “The War on Art” by Steven Pressfield?

You’ve got a real talent for putting these things into compelling pieces of writing, old bean. I look forward to more!
